Clugston International has been exporting used trucks from the UK to Africa for more than twenty years. We ship regularly to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, supplying transport firms, fuel distributors, construction companies and owner-operators. Everything leaves from our depot on Brigg Road in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, with the export paperwork handled at our end.
We come at this from the operator’s side of the fence. Our association with Clugston Distribution Services Ltd, a British logistics group with over a century in transport, means we’ve run these same trucks on demanding UK routes ourselves. We know which DAF models go the distance and which Scania set-ups earn their keep, and we buy stock accordingly.
Trucks in the UK sit an annual MOT test and operate under some of the strictest maintenance rules anywhere. The result is vehicles with documented service histories and plenty of working life still in them. That paper trail matters when you’re buying from four thousand miles away.
Right-hand drive is the other advantage. Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Botswana all drive on the left, so a UK truck slots straight into your fleet with no adjustment for drivers.
Parts supply deserves as much thought as purchase price. DAF, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Isuzu all maintain dealer networks across Africa, and we weigh this up when recommending a model. A cheap truck you can’t get filters for is not a cheap truck.
Fuel distribution equipment is our strong suit. Current stock includes Scania P320 and P360 fuel tankers of up to 20,000 litres, DAF LF and CF tankers, Volvo FL and FE tankers, MAN TGM tankers and a Mercedes Atego mini tanker suited to tighter routes. Alongside these we carry tractor units, a MAN TGM skip lorry, Feldbinder food-grade tankers, and flat and extendable trailers from Montracon and SDC.
If the truck you need isn’t listed, tell us. Our sourcing network takes in UK fleet operators, dealers and conversion specialists, and we locate vehicles to specification most weeks. Pick a vehicle from stock or send us a sourcing request with the make, model and your budget. We quote for the truck plus shipping to your nearest port, whether that’s Tema, Lagos, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Walvis Bay or Durban. Once payment clears, we prepare the UK export documents and coordinate with clearing agents at the destination.
Every truck gets a pre-export inspection covering engine, transmission, brakes, electrics and bodywork, backed by photographs, so you know precisely what’s arriving. You’ll get updates through transit. Buying several units? We can consolidate them into a single shipment to bring your freight cost down.
It depends on the size of the vehicle, the shipping method and the destination port. Roll-on roll-off usually works out cheapest for complete trucks. Send us the vehicle details and your port and we’ll give you a firm all-in price, with no surprises after the deposit.
Southern African customers in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana typically take delivery through Walvis Bay or Durban, with onward transport to Lusaka, Harare, Kitwe and beyond. West African buyers in Ghana and Nigeria receive vehicles through Tema and Lagos. For Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, we ship into Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.
Each country sets its own rules on vehicle age limits, inspections and duty. We’ve dealt with most of them, and we’ll flag anything that affects your purchase before you commit rather than after.
